Northeastern University, Department of Art+ Design seeks a Technical Director to manages the operation of the Art + Design Digital Studios networks and labs. The Director develops scheduling; hires, trains, and supervises full-time professional staff, coop students, part-time laboratory and teachers' assistants; manages the Art + Design Digital Studios budget line; maintains or supervises maintenance of lab computers, peripherals and software; and administers the network. Director acts as a liaison to the College of Professional Studies on issues involving the Art + Design Digital Studios and courses taught there. Through print, seminar and on-line research, the Director remains current with technological developments effecting digital arts and graphic design, and acts as a consultant to the Chair and other departmental faculty on these and other issues. To ensure that essential services are provided, the Technical Director will be required to work outside regular working hours as needed for maintenance, training or supervision.

Qualifications

The minimum qualification is:

1. MS, MA, in information technology or computer science, or

2. MFA with equivalent professional experience in computer hardware and network administration, or

3. Bachelors degree with equivalent professional experience in computer hardware and network administration.

The candidate should have at least three years technical experience in, Windows and Macintosh environments, grounding in animation, interactive media, illustration, image manipulation or design  software, as well as familiarity with Macintosh network administration. The candidate must have strong hardware and software problem-solving skills, as well as demonstrated administrative and supervisory abilities. Excellent communication skills are mandatory for success in this position.
